Food and water quality are key to successfully culturing Ceriodaphnia. I have made-up a series of questions to get a better idea of how other laboratories are making their Yeast-Cerophyll-Trout Chow food. 1. Please include Specific brands of food and any substitutions. From your experience are there certain brands to stay away from? 2. List of specific equipment: What do you aerate the trout chow(or substitute) with(airstone, pipette, other). Please be specific with the size and type of aerating device(glass-bead airstone, wood airstone, plastic airstone, sand airstone, micro/fine or macro/coarse air bubble airstone, 1 ml. plastic pipette, etc.) 3. Is the air used to aerate, filtered thru activated carbon or HEPA filter? 4. How vigorously is the trout chow aerated? 5. What temperature is the trout chow aerated? 6. Is the Cerophyll blended or stirred? 7. What is the temperature of the Milli-Q water used to make the Cerophyll and Yeast(is the water warm enough to activate the yeast?). 8. Are any components filtered? If so what size filter? 9. What is light intensity and duration(constant light, no light, other?) in the chamber or room where the trout chow is aerated? Sunlight exposure, room light exposure, or other such as UV. 9. Are any supplements added(such as vitamins)? 10. What is the average number of neonates produced per adult for the third brood? Average mortality in a 60 organism tray after one week. 11. What type of Q.C. is performed on the Y.C.T. batches and how often? 12. How long can a batch of YCT be used after it has made? After it has been thawed(if frozen)? 13. Also, please include type of culture water being used(Moderately Hard or Hard with or without Se, or other). Type of water purification system used to process the water used to make MHSW or HSW. 14. Please state if the algae you feed with the YCT is other than Selenastrum capricornutum or the concentration is other than 30,000,000 to 35,000,000 cells per milliter. 15. Are you a state certified lab? If someone has already done a survey to obtain the above information please send me a copy or info on where to get the information. Thank you
