Microtox: ammonia and sucrose.

Hello.

My name is Marcos Levy and i´m a student from Uruguay.
I´m making some experiments with the Microtox test.
I´m using sucrose as the osmotic pressure adjustment
agent, because the effluents i´m trying contain ammonia,
and the bibliography says that sucrose raise the sensibility
of this test to that ion.
But the problem is that when i measure the light emmited
by the bacteria at "zero time" the value is too low, so
the computer can´t make any calculation.
Anyone knows something about it?
Anyone has the technique, procedure, SOP, or anything
related?
Or maybe an alternative to sucrose?

Thanks a lot.
