chlorine dioxide

The use of chlorine dioxide is very effective in removal of unwanted bacteria from drinking water. Unfortunately this compound is very harmful to Daphnia magna. We use the daphnids in a biomonitor to detect other harmful compounds. Any suggestion for removal of excess of chlorine dioxide that does not affect the health of the daphnids is appreciated. References?
We used thiosulfate but this may interfere with other inorganic compounds. We also took sodium ascorbate under consideration: the disadvantage is that it may catch the oxygen needed for the daphnids.
